Caravan & Motorhome Sun Canopies

A sun canopy is the simplest form of awning. It attaches to your caravan or motorhome's awning rail and extends outward to create an open-fronted covered area - providing shade from the sun and shelter from light rain. Most canopies have no side panels (though some can be added as optional extras), so they do not create an enclosed room like a full or porch awning.

Sun canopies are the lightest, cheapest, and fastest to erect of all awning types. If all you need is somewhere to sit in the shade with a drink, a canopy does the job without the bulk, weight, or cost of a full awning.

A sun canopy is a good choice if you:

• Tour mainly in summer and want shade rather than enclosed shelter
• Do not want to carry the extra weight of a full or porch awning
• Want the fastest possible setup
• Are on a tighter budget - canopies start from around £120
• Use a motorhome and want something minimal for day stops

If you need enclosed shelter from wind and rain, or you want a secure space for belongings, a porch awning is the next step up.

Budget canopies (like the Camptech Sussex, from £121) use steel poles. These are heavier but sturdy and cheap to replace. Premium canopies use aluminium poles, which are lighter and resist corrosion better - worth the extra if you are carrying the canopy regularly.
