Motorhome & Driveaway Awnings
Drive away from the campsite without dismantling your awning
What Is a Driveaway Awning?
A driveaway awning connects to the side of your motorhome or campervan and creates an enclosed living space. The key difference from a caravan awning is in the name; you can detach the awning from the vehicle and drive away, leaving it standing at the campsite. When you return, you simply reconnect.
This is particularly useful if you want to explore the local area during the day without dismantling your campsite. The awning stays pegged and guyed, and your chairs, table, and kit remain sheltered inside.
Why Choose a Driveaway Awning?
Extra space without losing your vehicle
- Drive away from the campsite without dismantling your awning
- The awning stays pegged and standing while you explore
- Creates enclosed living space for seating, cooking, or sleeping
- Attaches to any motorhome with a standard awning rail
- Available in a range of sizes from compact to full-width
- Camptech Moto range starts from just £399
How Driveaway Awnings Connect
Driveaway awnings attach to your motorhome using a connector strip or sleeve. The connector fits into your vehicle's awning rail (most motorhomes have one fitted as standard) or clamps to the gutter rail. When you want to drive away, you unthread or unclamp the connector, zip the awning closed, and the freestanding frame holds everything in place.
The attachment height matters. Motorhomes have higher attachment points than caravans, and different models vary. Measure the height of your awning rail from the ground; most driveaway awnings are adjustable to fit a range of heights, but check the specifications to make sure your vehicle falls within the range.
Choosing a Motorhome Awning
The Camptech Moto range covers most needs:
- Moto Monarch (£447) - 280cm wide with a deeper 355cm depth including tunnel. Available in three heights to suit most vehicles.
- Moto Kingston (from £399) - lightweight at just 14kg, with a 300cm width and 280cm depth. Great for shorter stays.
- Moto Crown (from £510) - 300cm wide and 300cm deep, plus a 90cm tunnel. Good balance of space and weight.
- Moto Tudor (£549) - a tailgate-style awning with 390cm total depth. Designed for longer stays.
- Moto Windsor (£1,200) - the largest in the range at 500cm wide and 350cm deep. Substantial enclosed space for extended touring.
All use Camptech's Climatech coated polyester fabric and Techline easy-glide zip system. All models in the Moto range use air inflation for quick assembly.
Some caravan porch awnings can also work with motorhomes using an adapter kit, but purpose-built driveaway awnings generally fit better and are designed for the higher attachment point.
