Caravan Porch Awnings

What Is a Porch Awning?

A porch awning attaches to part of your caravan's awning rail - typically covering 2 to 4 metres of the caravan's side. It's smaller than a full awning, quicker to put up, and lighter to carry. Most porch awnings can be erected by one person in 10 to 15 minutes.

Porch awnings are the most popular type of awning we sell. They suit caravanners who tour regularly and want extra covered space without the weight and setup time of a full awning. They're also a good choice for rally weekends or short breaks where you want somewhere to sit, store muddy boots, or keep the dog dry.

Choosing the Right Width

Porch awnings come in standard widths. The right choice depends on your caravan size and how you plan to use the space:

  • 200 cm - compact and lightweight, ideal for solo or couple touring
  • 260 cm - the most popular size, a good all-rounder for most caravans
  • 300 cm - more room for families, space for a small table and chairs
  • 390 cm - approaching full-awning territory, good for longer stays without the weight of a seasonal awning

The Camptech Starline range is available in all four widths, starting from £399 for the Starline 200. The Starline Elite range offers the same widths with upgraded fabric and features, starting from £678.

Air vs Pole Porch Awnings

The same air vs pole choice applies to porch awnings as to full awnings, but the difference is less dramatic at this size. A porch awning has fewer tubes or poles, so setup is quicker either way. Air porch awnings typically inflate in under 5 minutes; pole versions take 10 to 15 minutes.

The Camptech Starline range uses air inflation for quick setup. The Starline 200 starts at £399, making it one of the most affordable air porch awnings available.

Fitting and Attachment

Porch awnings attach to your caravan's awning rail using a beading strip that slides into the channel. This is the same rail used by full awnings; any caravan with a standard awning rail can use a porch awning. You don't need the full rail length; the porch awning simply slides into one section of it.

Storm straps are recommended for any awning left up in wind. The Camptech Techline Secure Straps (£29.99) are designed to fit all Camptech porch awnings and pass over the roof of the caravan to anchor both sides.

Explore Other Awning Types

Need more space? A full awning covers the entire length of your caravan and creates a much larger enclosed area - ideal for seasonal pitches. If you have a motorhome, check our driveaway awnings which detach so you can use the vehicle while the awning stays up. For sun shelter without the sides, a sun canopy is the lightest option.

Don't forget awning accessories - storm straps, groundsheets, and pumps to get the most from your porch awning.
