About 3Dog Camping

3Dog Camping was a German manufacturer of premium hand-built folding caravans and rooftop tents, founded in 2005 by Julian Nocke in Hamburg. Every unit was hand-manufactured at their Hamburg factory using Billabong Canvas — a double-twisted cotton-polyester blend imported from Australia, specially cleaned and refined to be extremely resistant, flexible, UV-resistant, and protected against fungal growth. The brand won the Outdoor Industry Award in 2009.

3Dog Camping was acquired by the Erwin Hymer Group in November 2014 but unfortunately ceased operations at the end of 2019, unable to compete against low-cost East Asian imports despite their superior quality. CAMPWERK has since taken over the 3Dog Camping brand and handles all service and spare parts.

Used 3Dog units are rare and sought-after due to the exceptional build quality, premium materials, and the fact that no new units will ever be produced. The brand carried a remarkable 10-year warranty on all products — one of the most generous in the industry. All YKK zips feature fungicide coating for water-repellency, and all aluminium parts have rounded-off edges to prevent canvas damage.

How 3Dog Camping trailer tents are built

3Dog Camping trailer tents used Billabong Canvas — a double-twisted cotton-polyester blend imported from Australia, colour-fast and waterproof. All zips are YKK with fungicide coating for water-repellency and durability. Windows use soft PVC material that is exceptionally flexible yet highly durable. Finely woven mosquito nets are fitted in all doors and windows. Guy ropes use robust stainless steel springs for wind resistance. The tent floor features an integrated water protection tarp. The TrailDog features the Froli bed system — a sprung slat arrangement for improved mattress support and airflow. All units were hand-manufactured in Hamburg, prioritising individualisation over mass production.

The 3Dog TrailDog is a premium German hand-built trailer tent from the now-discontinued 3Dog Camping brand (ceased production end of 2019 — service and spares via CAMPWERK). The TrailDog features a large 1.5m x 2m elevated bed accessed via ladder, positioned above the braked trailer, with the Froli bed system — a sprung slat arrangement for improved mattress support and airflow. The bed stays made up when folded, ready for the next night. The integrated side living area provides 11 m² of space (expandable to 36 m² with add-on tents), with a groundsheet, zip-back mesh liners on all doors and bedroom for ventilation and insect protection, and a side panel that converts to a sun canopy. Built with Australian Billabong Canvas — a double-twisted cotton-polyester blend that is extremely resistant, UV-resistant, and mould-protected. All zips are YKK with fungicide coating. Rare and collectible — no new units will ever be produced.
